Early Sunday morning the 20th, CCSAR was called out to search for an overdue hunter in the Wet Mountains. The team successfully located him in
good spirits, if not a little cold and hungry after a chilly and windy night in his unplanned bivy. We want to extend our thanks to the subject’s relatives who assisted with information as well as a private property owner who, without hesitation, granted trespass privileges to CCSAR which significantly reduced the access time and travel distance required to complete the mission.
We would like to take the opportunity to remind hunters and backcountry users alike, to be prepared for forecasted weather conditions and also to plan ahead in the event you are benighted unexpectedly. This means carrying more gear than you believe you may need for a day hike/hunt. Create a solid itinerary/plan that you share with your loved ones. Please remember that SAR response time is not immediate. We are 100% volunteer, unpaid professionals who have to drop what we are doing and respond to the call for assistance. The more information you, or your designated contacts, can provide to us during the initial stages of a mission, significantly reduces the operational complexities required to find you.
We are happy with the outcome and wish the subject and his relatives a happy reunion.
