Sand Gulch Fire: 29 April – 2 May, 2011

The fire was detected on 4/26/2011 and is located approximately 5 miles southwest of Wetmore, in Custer County. As of 2 May, the fire remains 555 acres in size and is considered 50% contained. The Type 3 management team remains in place and there are approximately 100 firefighters working the fire.

Day1 - Evacuating Affected Residents

Day 1 – 29 April, 2011

Nineteen CCSAR members responded to the Sand Gulch fire to help with evacuations in the Greenwood Road area (see map).

Day 2 – 30 April, 2011

We were asked to have a few members stand by with rescue equipment in case of an accident in the burn area. We sent three of our members and an EMT to stand by till dusk.

Day 3 – 1 May, 2011

Crews stood down due to heavy snow in area.

Day 4 – 2 May, 2011

CCSAR sent members + EMT in two shifts to stand by with rescue equipment in case of an accident in the burn area.
