July 4, 2020

On Friday, July 3, 2020, at 11:00 CCSAR was called to assist Saguache County Search and Rescue for a 60-year old male climber injured in a rock fall descending Crestone Peak. With support from the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) and Flight For Life (FFL), 6 SAR members on the Technical Rope Rescue Team were inserted via helicopter into the field. The subject sustained serious injuries that required a hoist from the Colorado Army National Guard (COANG). The subject was then transported to the hospital via FFL. All personnel were out of the field by 1700.

The success of this mission depended greatly on coordinating with several different agencies, and CCSAR is deeply appreciative of the respectful nature of these relationships.
Keep in mind, unexpected and unplanned events can occur in the backcountry that come with greater risk to safety.
