As weather continues to be variable and unstable in the Sangres, we advise checking weather forecasts and making prudent decisions regarding route selection. Be honest about your abilities and whenever possible, hike with another person. Start early so that you are out of danger from changing weather conditions especially in case something should go wrong. Carrying extra clothing, food, water and phone battery bank is essential when traveling in the backcountry. When in trouble, your first call should be to 911 to get information to Search and Rescue as soon as possible. After that, we advise conserving your phone battery to maintain connection with rescue teams.
