On Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 1645 Custer County SAR was called out to the Horn Peak Trail to support a hiker experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness. This group of hikers recognized what was happening and quickly called 911 for support. Our medical team reached the party, did an assessment, and helped the hiker walk out to be further evaluated by Custer County EMS. Their decision to call right away greatly impacted the success of this mission. With warmer temperatures this time of year, we recommend carrying extra water and food in addition to the #10Essentials. All teams were out of the field by 1930. #NoChargeForRescue #safetyfirst
