Fatal Fall on Crestone Peak / Red Gully

A Denver man died Friday after falling more than 800 feet in an area near Crestone Peak.   It was the third reported incident in two weeks on the Peak.  Custer County assisted in the transportation of personnel from the field only.

Christopher Kiryluk, 34, was pronounced dead Friday afternoon at the incident command headquarters near Crestone, Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick said.  Warwick praised the search teams from Saguache, Custer and Gunnison counties who attempted to reach Kiryluk.

Falls on snow in the coulior left one individual with serious injuries on July 11th and CCSAR assisted another climber on July 12th due to a less serious ankle injury after another fall.  It is believed that this climber also fell on snow in the same coulior, on what is considered the standard route on this 14er.
